Or perhaps it should be, “…Where the traffic isn’t such a pain.” There are a couple of congested blocks in Edmond, Oklahoma, but they don’t really compare to the crammed 6- and 8-lane highways surrounding and criss-crossing the city of the Braves. Two days driving over the flat plains, $200 in gas, two days of interviews, auditions, apartment-hunting and Forbat-socializing make for an incredibly short decision window. But the decision has been made. We are moving to the big OK.
I was officially admitted to the M.M. in Jazz program yesterday evening, which was certainly a positive thing considering that I had reserved a moving truck just prior to the official phone call. I also accidentally submitted my information on the wrong form somewhere in cyberspace and I have been receiving spam from all sorts of moving companies constantly ever since by phone and email. Those guys don’t take ‘DELETED’ for an answer.
Jen is working on the possibility of teaching art in a classical school in the area. We do have our hopes set on it and the initial interview seemed promising. If she is offered the job it will be one giant step toward affording our small apartment. That’s important, because the only other option we have in Edmond at present is the Forbat futon (had to get it in this entry somehow), an option which is not really an option for more than a day or two. Fortunately, our small apartment comes equipped with an appropriately small rent, which is hard to find even in the bustling mid-western suburban economy of Edmond.
The most positive characteristic of the school (University of Central Oklahoma), other than ‘The Jazz Lab’, its building for performance, recording, and jazz-type classes of all sorts (check it out at http://ucojazzlab.com/), definitely has to be its close proximity to McAlister’s (IT’S NEXT DOOR), at which Jen and I found time to eat lunch after my audition. Man, it’s been too long.
As you may have surmised, we have to move in a few weeks. We are presently determining what we will keep and what we will get rid of. Should any of the readership be interested in obtaining some of the stuff we are leaving behind, let us know. The spoils may include a dining table we will have no room for, along with books, possibly some computer stuff and some end tables or something. Who knows what else may fall under the axe. We’ll see.
